Pipistrelle and a Fitted Jacket

Pipistrelle

I saw this shawl on Ravelry and had to buy the pattern. Worked in the chevron stitch, this shawl appears like a huge bat wing, very compelling and quite slenderizing.  It is designed by Helene Marcy for Annette Patavy Design.  I opted to make the smaller version as I am not usually a fan of shawls but can actually see myself wearing this.  I’m making it in a heather shade of violet with Bamboo and Ewe, the Joanns wool/bamboo blend yarn in fingering weight.

Fitted Jacket

In addition, I started a fitted jacket several weeks ago using a beautiful gold shade of Rowen’s Purelife Organic Wool called Alder Buckthorn.  At this point, all the main parts are done.  I still have to add buttoned cuffs and a collar.  Since I got distracted with the shawl it may take me a while to finish this project but since it is really more of an autumn piece, I might just wait to post the pattern closer to September.

Elfie’s Shawl

Elfie is a dear friend who gifted me with 28 ounces of yellow mohair yarn a few years ago.  First I made the One Stitch Sweater but I had enough yarn left over for another project so I made Elfie’s Shawl.  Elfie lives in Florida so I knew she wouldn’t be able to use anything heavy.  This shawl is worked in crossed double crochet rows alternating with single crochet rows.  I added a little triangular border on the bottom.  I didn’t write the pattern out because it is such a no-brainer but if anyone wants it, I’ll be happy to oblige. The pattern follows.

Elfie's Shawl

Materials: 8 sk Reynolds Wendy Whisper, Crochet Hook Size G, Tapestry Needle

Size: Not important to this project.  I forgot to measure it before I mailed it so you must judge from the photo.

Row 1: Ch 231, sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc in ea ch to end, ch2, turn.

Row 2: Sk 1st st, sk 2nd st, dc in 3rd st, dc in st just skipped, *sk next st, dc in next st, dc in st just skipped* repeat from * to* to end of row, dc in last st. Ch 1, turn.

Row 3: Sc in ea st across to end, sc in 2nd ch of turning ch from previous row,ch2, turn.

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until your shawl is the width you prefer.

**When you are working the crossed dc stitch, make certain that you count your stitches.  It is very easy to mistake the last stitch you made as “empty” when in fact it contains one of the crossed dc’s and is being pulled open slightly.

Bottom Trim: I used the Block Edge trim pattern from Lionbrand.

Zig-Zag Stole

ZigZagstoleA dear lady named Dot had a blog once that offered all kinds of wonderful free crochet patterns.  About two years ago, she abandoned her blog and fortunately, I had downloaded many of her patterns.  Now they are almost impossible to find.  I would like to thank Dot for this beautiful stole pattern.

December 2009 Update: Dot’s patterns are now posted on Crochetville!
