The sedge stitch results in a very textured and interesting pattern. Here I have worked the cowl in the round, making the sedge pattern appear as diagonal rows. On the Ear Warmer, I’ve worked the stitches flat. In that case, the sedge pattern looks more like a boxed waffle. Either way is pretty. This easy pattern works up quickly and makes a great gift.

I love the texture of this pattern. But mine wants to roll inward. Any suggestions? I still need to do the slip stitches but can’t think that will make a big difference.

Terri, I did’nt have this problem. I can’t imagine why you are. Give it a light blocking when you are done. The edging might also take care of the situation.

This looks lovely but I’m a bit new to all this… I don’t see a * nor ** in the pattern.. do you mean repeat the { } part til the round is completed?

Yes Abel, that’s exactly what I mean! I think I had edited that section to include the parentheses instead of the * and forgot to remove the next sentence. I will fix it. Thank you for calling it to my attention!

LeAnn, go to the top of the blog page where it says “Free Accessory Patterns”. Choose the pattern you want and click on it. A pdf file will pop up with the pattern. Hover over the middle of the page near the bottom with your curser. You will see a print icon so that you can print the pattern. Let me know if you have a problem.

HI, Im new to crochet and wanted to make this ear warmer for christmas. i usually use youtube and havent read patterns very much. just wondering, when it says “sc, hdc and dc into next chian” does that mean you just pick one of those to do, or do you do all 3 of those in the stitch?
Thanks!

Erin, congratulations for challenging yourself to learn to read patterns! It’s not hard at all once you get used to the abreviations. Yes, in that instruction you make all of those 3 stitches into the same chain. Then you skip chains to make up for the extra stitches.
