(6) 1 1/4″ lightweight plastic black buttons

GAUGE: 18 HDC = 4″, 17 Rows = 4″
OVERVIEW:
This draped jacket will be worked side to side all in one piece as a large rectangle. You will leave two slits for the armholes. There are no seams to sew.
STITCH PATTERN: The entire jacket is worked in hdc. Each hdc is worked into the two loops of the stitch on the row below. The hdc rows leave a natural ridge running lengthwise.
INSTRUCTIONS:
Ch 115: hdc into 2nd ch from hook and into ea ch to end. Ch1, turn.
Rows 2-38: Hdc into 1st st and into ea st across (114 hdcs) ch 1, turn.
Work Armhole
Row 39: Hdc into 1st 28 sts, ch 40, sk next 40 sts, hdc into final 46 sts, ch1, turn.
Row 40: Hdc into ea st and into ea ch across (114 hdcs), ch1, turn.
Rows 41-76: Hdc into ea st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 77: Work armhole as in row 39, working 28 sts at the neck, 40 chs for the armhole, and 46 sts across the row to the hem, ch 1, turn.
Row 78: Hdc into ea st and ea ch across.
Rows 79-114: Hdc into ea st across, ch 1, turn.
Row 115: Hdc into 1st 3 sts, *ch 4, sk 4 sts, hdc into next 16 sts* to last 6 sts. Hdc into last 6 sts, ch 1, turn.
Row 116: Hdc into ea st and ea ch across, ch 1, turn. (6 buttonholes made)
Row 117-118: Hdc into ea st across. Fasten off.
FINISHING
If you like, you can work a slip stitch row along each front to make a nice edge. Weave in ends, sew top two buttons on wrong side of left front across from buttonhole.
